Event Management

The event organisers will endeavour on every front to minimize the impact on the environment:
Leave No Trace

This event will adhere to the principles of Leave No Trace and as such will take care of the environment. CAAN is a financial partner of Leave No Trace Ireland and is committed to its principles and practices.

The Leave No Trace programme is designed to help outdoor enthusiasts value the natural environment, to understand the impact of their activities, and to enable them to make decisions to minimise that impact while still enjoying their activities with freedom:

  • Plan Ahead and Prepare
  • Be Considerate of Others
  • Respect Farm Animals and Wildlife
  • Travel and Camp on Durable Ground
  • Leave What You Find
  • Dispose of Waste Properly
  • Minimise the Effects of Fire

Waste Management
  • Bins will be supplied at the event arena and at all feed stations on the route
  • A thorough post-event litter sweep operation will take place to ensure that any litter on the route or in the event arena will be removed
  • All participants will be thoroughly briefed on the fact that they must take any rubbish they create, home with them. Any participant found to be littering along the route will be disqualified immediately from the event and transported back to the event finish. Competitors will be advised that future events will be in jeopardy if their actions are not in line with race guidelines
  • As far as possible items given away along the route at feed stations will be unwrapped to minimise any possible littering
  • The Race Director and marshals will operate a very strict Leave No Trace policy
Transport

As passionate cyclists, many visitors and participants will already be keen to use cycling as a mode of transport where possible with the aim of reducing their carbon footprint. However, the following measures and policies will be in place with regards to transport and car parking:

  • All visitors staying overnight will be encouraged on the day of the event to travel by bike where possible to the event
  • Car parking facilities will be located in the grounds of the Armagh City Hotel
  • All competitors will be encouraged to car pool where possible for this event
Signage
  • Any paint which is used for marking will be non permanent, bio degradable paint
  • All signs and control points will be removed immediately after the event
